The Aztec Gateway
About this Site

A Brief History of the Aztec Gateway

I am a modern day practitioner of the Aztec religion; a priest of Tezcatlipoca. If you're at a loss as to what that means, the rest of the site will hopefully clarify in more detail. Throughout this site, it is my goal to present historically accurate information on ancient Aztec beliefs and practices as they once were. While I will speak on what I believe as well, and any differences between the beliefs of the past and my own, I shall keep it clear as to what has historically been, what my own personal beliefs are, where they differ and where they are the same.

The reason I have created this site is to spread accurate information on Aztec religious beliefs and practices. When I first became called to this faith myself, I found very little information available. What was available was either of dubious accuracy or presented as a strange and savage religion that was dead, and should remain so. It was my hope in creating this site that it would serve as a decent resource for anyone else drawn to the Aztec deities. Since its' inception in late 2001, I have recieved many emails from people with a similar interest who found things of value here, which I am grateful for.

While the idea of someone practicing the Aztec religion in the modern day may seem strange to many people, I hope that the explanations provided will shed some light on this subject, and show it to be the serious and valid faith that it was, is, and will continue to be.

Navigating this Site

This site is arranged into several sections with links to related subjects within those sections. A brief rundown of what's in each section:

Tezcatlipoca: This section is a tribute to my patron god, and houses information on Tezcatlipoca, His worship and mythology.

Aztec Religion: This section houses historical information on Nahua religion as it was during the time of the conquest, including information on the worldview, gods, calendar systems, sacrifice, and Nahua magical practices.

My Beliefs: This section holds an explanation of the reconstructionist approach to ancient "pagan" religions, as well as details my personal beliefs and philosophies as an Aztec reconstructionist.

Modern Worship: Currently under construction, this section will serve as a sort of walkthrough guide for those looking for information on practicing Aztec religion in the modern day.

Black & Red Ink: My essays, rants, random insights and opinions. Also, personal (non-religious) information, as well as my attempts at creativity.

Links: This one is obvious.

Questions and Comments?

I am always glad to hear from others with similar interests. If you feel so inclined, you may email me. However, due to personal events in my life, I am no longer able to respond to every email I recieve, or with the speed I would like. I regret this, and wish that I could, but I can't. You may feel free to write to me, but I feel the need to warn you that I am no longer able to correspond as I once did. It's nothing personal, please do not take offense.
